OLD WOODEN IHAMBE STATUE FROM TIV

Ihambe figures are significant sculptures created by the Tiv people of Nigeria, serving as tutelary guardians deeply connected to fertility and lineage. The statue are made in both female and male, typically positioned outside the homes of senior wives, forming part of an Akombo shrine. This placement aimed to link the family with ancestral spirits, believed to safeguard the fertility of both women and land.
