GWENDOLEN
Gwendolen is a lively, affectionate little girl growing up in a Jamaican shantytown. When her parents emigrate to England they leave their daughter in the care of her poverty-stricken grandmother. At the age of nine she is violated by a ‘family friend’, and by the time she joins her parents in London, she has lost both her innocence and her sense of self-worth.
